While I enjoy Federal AE ammunition, the costs for.22LR remain exorbitant. I know, it's not their fault demand is what it is, but at the very least I was able to obtain some! Ammunition is fantastic in and of itself. It burns rather cleanly, with no duds or jams, and produces decent groupings with my Ruger 22/45 and CMMi AR conversion. My Pastor requested me a few months back to train his son to shoot. I had no idea this website existed at the time, so we went out with my Mosin Nagant, which isn't the finest rifle to learn how to shoot with. To summarize, he enjoyed firing that large pistol, and I was grateful that I could afford it. Who'd have guessed that center-fire cartridges could be as inexpensive as.22s? Anyway, I was able to purchase some 40gr Federal plinking ammunition, and we went out and shot a handgun with it. It worked flawlessly and was really accurate (better than I did with these old eyes). Although the pricing isn't cheap, I doubt we'll ever see prices drop to pre-Obama levels. At the very least, it gives me pleasure to see a child get enthusiastic about shooting sports.
They work well in my Kimber 22 Hunter, and they're the most accurate high-velocity ammunition I've tried. The AE22 high-performance and 712 Game Shock are nearly identical. Last fall, I purchased some of each to compare, and the only difference between them was the standard deviation and biggest difference in velocity over the Chrony. The 712 had a narrower dispersion, but a similar average. At 50, 75, and 100 yards, the point of impact was equal. I'm guessing the factory tests the 38 grain HP ammo batches before loading them, and the ones with the least velocity variance are sold as Game Shoks, while the remainder are packaged as American Eagle.

I didn't want to waste ammo on easy targets, so I focused my attention on the 300-yard target. At 14 mph, the wind was quartering eastward. Despite the presence of a Kestrel weather station, my cold legs, which were foolishly dressed in short socks, informed me everything I needed to know about local circumstances. At that distance, it required a number of dirt-kicking attempts to get a windage hold. But after a while, 300 yards became tedious as well.
