Milwaukee won their ninth game in a row on Wednesday, defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3. With Cincinnati's 4-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Brewers extended their advantage. "At this point, it's all about accumulating victories, and if teams behind us lose, it's going to be tough on them," Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. "We are aware that it is currently in our possession. You put in so much effort to develop this lead, and now it's in our hands. So that's your take on it. We've earned it if you take care of our business."

Brewers starter Adrian Houser, who was battered by a walk here, a defensive blunder there, a series of well-placed singles, and was pulled from the game without recording an out in the fifth inning, remarked, "Those guys picked me up tonight, enormous." I couldn't accomplish my work the way I wanted because I couldn't go out there. They did, however, come through. It demonstrates that everyone is ready to assist you. This team never backs down or surrenders. We stayed till the very last person left.

Monday, September 20th Milwaukee's magic number remained intact heading into Tuesday after their series opener loss to the Cardinals. During a four-game series against the Cardinals to begin the week, the Brewers have a chance to clinch the division. During the four-game series, Milwaukee will have both Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff on the mound. The Brewers' magic number for this week is three.
